The Value of Embarassment

Image
We have all been embarrassed before!  We all get embarrassed sometimes, stuff happens, or sometimes people deliberately enjoy causing embarrassment!  I know I have mentioned before about how youtube can help us feel better about our embarrassing moments.  Well my most embarrassing moment happened before youtube existed!  I did not have youtube to soften the blow of the worst embarrassment ever! It was my 16th birthday.  A milestone parents both look forward to and dread!  My mother always did something extra special for our 16th birthdays.  Yes she is one of those people who deliberately enjoys embarrassing people, especially her children!  I always appreciated that she made our birthdays really special every year, but my 16th year it backfired in a big way! When my older brother and sister got their high school lockers decorated and were left with treats and confetti among their books, I knew to expect something.  My sister had flowers delivered to her as well as a cute toddler

Mass Specs and Macarons

About a year ago I decided to try and learn how to make French Macarons.  I like to think that I have some kind of talent when it comes to baking.  The reality of it is, that anyone who attempts baking has some disaster at some point!  If you have ever watched the Great British Bake Off, then you know that even the best bakers have bad days.  Baking is extremely temperamental.  Even though you are good at it and you know what you are doing, it can still end in utter frustration. Well, my first problem was my recipe.  It said to use Almond meal, so I bought Almond meal, Haha, big mistake!  It also lacked very detailed instructions about mixing the egg whites and other details that could have been helpful.  This baking experience ended with a runny, lumpy mess that I had to scrape off of the pan.  I think I gave up on scraping the pan and just threw the whole thing away!  This is where I learned a very valuable lesson about using parchment paper! Several months later I watch

The Grass is Always Greener

We all know the saying "The Grass is always greener on the other side", right?  Is it though? It is an easy thing to say when we are not happy with our current situation.  As I have mentioned before, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and we believe in the different roles of men and women.  Each has their specific and Divine role in the family.  There is a reason women bear children and men don't.  As a mom I have had the yearning to be near my children as much as possible.  I want to raise them and be there for them.  My husband yearns to support our family financially.  Although we believe in moms having a more nurturing role in the home with children and dads having a more temporal providing role in the family, we also know that this is not always reality. The church is very supportive of the many different circumstances that are out there and they also support the desires and ambitions that people have individually.  I have never fel

Things Are Not Always What They Seem

I just FAILED my ASCPC exam!  I was not so happy with myself!   The one good thing was that I had lost 20 lbs since starting my weightloss plan.  I needed my ASCP certificate in chemistry to move forward in my Laboratory technology career and make more money.  I had studied for 4 months and came up 10 points short of passing. Not only that, but my dating life was a joke, no literally.  It was almost as if any time someone asked me out for a date it was painful to say yes!  This is how I know God has a sense of humor, my dating life was proof!  My experience as a "fish in the sea" was, well to sum it up, whenever I got caught I was quickly thrown back to the sea or I wiggled away.  Sometimes I had wished to just go belly up, please someone put me out of my misery in this dating sea!!  Every person I ended up liking never liked me at the same time.  Every person who was interested in me was not for me.  The old adage "you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find the
